Major Traffic Problem this morning through Winston-Salem:
A portion of By-pass (new) 40 Westbound just past Stratford Road is shutdown…due to an early morning accident. There is a fuel spill as well.
Officials say that it could be noon until WB I-40 in that area is back open.Try Business 40 as an alternate route.

The shutdown of the nation’s largest oil field in Alaska is expected to reverberate throughout the nation, especially on the West Coast.
Oil giant BP said corrosion is so severe it'll have to replace most of the 22 miles of transit pipeline, and that could take months. Gas prices have already fluxuated…up 3 cents a gallon since the news on Monday. (AP)

Commissioners in Davie County voted to allow the words “In God We Trust” to appear on the county’s administration building. A private , non-profit group (the US Motto Action Committee) made the proposal and will oversee the installation of the motto within 60 days. (WS JOURNAL)

Doctors have successfully separated 4-year-old twin sisters born joined at the midsection, with just one kidney and one set of legs.
Kendra and Maliyah were separated after nearly 16 hours of surgery.
Maliyah will be placed on dialysis and is to get a kidney from her mother, Erin Herrin, within three to six months. (FOX News Channel)
This is the first known surgical attempt to separate twins with a shared kidney.

Lebanon's government has rejected a cease-fire plan, demanding Israel withdraw immediately from Lebanon. Lebanon is also promising to send 15,000 troops to take control of the Hezbollah stronghold along the border.

In a related story: Reuters news agency withdrew all 920 photographs by a freelance photographer from Lebanon yesterday after a review of his work showed he had altered images taken from during the conflict between Israel and Hezbollah. Doughnut maker Krispy Kreme invades Hong Kong…actually the donut maker is opening a 2,000-square foot shop in Hong Kong today.
Krispy Kreme has also signed franchise deals with groups in Japan, the Philippines and Indonesia. (AP)

North Carolina Highway Patrol is conducting its Operation Summer Heat this week through Sunday in the Triad. The Goal of Operation Summer Heat is to reduce crashes, injuries and fatalities by increasing DWI patrols in counties with the highest number of alcohol-related collisions. (NC DOT)
