Silas Creek Parkway is still closed in both directions between Buchanan and Konnoak Streets in Winston-Salem. DOT officials are repairing all six lanes of Silas Creek Parkway at Buchannan Street after a water main break on Tuesday caused extensive damage to the road. The road could be partially reopened by Friday afternoon. (METRO Traffic)
-Westbound traffic on I-40 (by-pass) should take the Peters Creek Parkway exit to avoid detours on Silas Creek.

Gildan Activewear Inc will close two sock factories in Mt Airy by the end of August. Over 500 workers will be affected. Gildan is the leading supplier of wholesale active wear in the US and Canada. Since January 2006…more than 2,000 workers have lost their jobs in Surry, Carroll and Grayson counties. (Journalnow.com / WXII / Fox 8)

Going, Going..Gone? It appears those 2 wayward humpback whales may have finally returned to the Pacific Ocean. The whale and her calf were spotted in the River May 13 and got as far as 90 miles inland to the Port of Sacramento before turning around. (CNN)

In the Pacific…Tropical Storm Barbara is gaining steam off the southwestern coast of Mexico. The Atlantic Hurricane Season officially begins on Friday and runs through the end of November. (CNN)

Three former Presidents including Jimmy Carter, Bill Clinton and George Bush, Sr will be on hand at a private dedication of the Billy Graham Library in Charlotte later today. The Billy Graham Library opens to the public next week.

Josiah Wright (a 12 year old homeschooler from Ashe County) and 3 other students from North Carolina made it through day one of the Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington DC.
Josiah won the Winston-Salem Journal Regional Spelling Bee in March.
He correctly spelled the word philately ( which means the collection and study of postage stamps).
