At least 21 people confirmed dead in our state after severe storms touched off numerous tornadoes Saturday afternoon. Over 130 people were seriously injured. The Governor issuing a State of Emergency over the weekend after surveying storm damaged areas on Sunday. The President has pledged federal assistance in the hardest hit areas.
-Early reports showing that 65 homes and businesses were totally destroyed and another 600 homes were severely damaged just in North Carolina. Those numbers will likely go up.
-Shaw University in downtown Raleigh has cancelled the remainder of its spring semester because of extensive storm damage. Graduation (at Shaw) will go on as scheduled on May 7th. Students will be assigned grades based on the work they have completed as of Friday.

The Fred's Drug Store in Pascagoula, Mississippi has been broken into several times in the past six months. Each time, the burglars that broke in took the pain medication ‘Lor-tab’. Pharmacist Mac Clark finally said that enough is enough. So, he decided to substitute kidney beans in a large Lor-tab bottle. Last week, the burglars came back. Former TV anchor Tolly Carr will be a guest speaker at Davidson County Community College on Tuesday (April 19) reflecting on his tragic story of drinking and driving as part of Alcohol Awareness Month. Carr will speak fro 12:30 – 1:30pm at the DCCC conference center. The event is Free and open to the public.
