What does it mean if the Federal Government Shuts-down this weekend?  If a budget deal is NOT met…more than 800,000 federal workers would undergo a ‘work stoppage’ as of (midnight) Friday into Saturday.  Good news: Social Security checks will still go out. Tax payments and e-filed returns will still happen. US soldiers and FBI agents will remain on the job. And, yes, the mail will be delivered as normal.  www.myfox8.com/news/wghp-story-government-shutdown-effects-110406,0,5544376.story

A local firefighter was at the right place, at the right time earlier in the week.  Eric Stewart was enjoying lunch with his son at Rural Hall Elementary when a teacher ran over to his table, telling him that a student was choking.  Stewart jumped up, went over to 9 year old Darrell Cates (4th grader) and gave him three abdomen thrusts. Out came the chicken nugget that had gotten lodged in Darrell’s throat. “I popped the chicken nugget in my mouth. The next thing I know, I couldn’t breathe,” Cates said. “I was like, ‘Lord, get someone over here. I don’t want to choke to death.”  Eric Stewart, who works for the Rural Hall Fire Department, said he doesn't consider himself a hero…just a firefighter doing what he's been trained to do.  Eric said. "Thank goodness the Lord put me here that day for a reason."  http://www.wxii12.com/news/27455480/detail.html
