The Triad’s newest Wal-mart located on Peter’s Creek Parkway / Highway 150…just south of Winston-Salem will open at 7:30 this morning. Doors will open at 8am.
About 300 paratroopers from Fort Bragg have left for a year-long deployment to Afghanistan. The troops are part of the 82nd Airborne Division. Eventually, 5,000 troops will replace the 10th Mountain Division.
Sending additional troops to the Middle East will be one of the many topics that President Bush will cover during his State of the Union Address tomorrow night.

Ever been to an over the top kid’s birthday party? Ever went overboard on your child’s party?
A group of Minnesota parents has banded together to try to put a stop to over-the-top birthday parties for children.
‘Birthdays Without Pressure’ takes aim at the competition that drives moms and dads to throw parties that will really, really impress the kids -- and other parents.
The group has started a Web site with suggestions for reducing the stress and pressure that can come with planning kids' birthday parties.
Suggestions:
-Gift-free parties (mention that any gifts will be donated to charity)
-Gift exchanges in which every child both brings a gift and leaves with one.
-Having simple activities such as playing outside or a treasure hunt.
-Eliminating gift bags and theme parties.
-Inviting children only (not their parents)
-Family-only birthday parties.
