ELECTION DAY is less than 4 weeks away. TODAY is the final day to register to vote in the upcoming November 4th General Election.

Stock markets around the world falling sharply overnight as investor fears about the global financial crisis deeps. One economist said the markets are nearing their bottom. CNN

The winner of a $42 million Mega Millions jackpot in Michigan may do something almost unheard of: receive the money in installments rather than getting a smaller, one-time cash payment.

More than 10,000 children in China remained hospitalized after drinking milk contaminated with the industrial chemical melamine. Eight of the children are listed in serious condition. The scandal has so far been blamed for the deaths of four babies. Melamine contamination can lead to kidney stones and possibly life-threatening kidney failure.

The Winston-Salem City Manager has announced a 'freeze' on hiring, travel and most capital expnditures in order to reduce spending in response to the economic downturn.
