An explosive rally sent the Dow Jones Industrial Average rocketing up more than 900 points on Monday. Confidence on Wall Street coming from recent talks between the US and other nations to jointly back the global banking system. Details about the $700 billion dollar bail out plan should be released today.

North Carolina's public employee pension funds have dropped in value by at least $6 billion dollars over the last three months. But… State Treasurer Richard Moore stating that the retirement system that supports more than 800,000 current and former state workers is sound. He said no one should worry about their monthly pension check. Former Gov. Jim Hunt and mayors from across the state will gather in Charlotte today to discuss the challenges they face and how Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama could help them if he is elected. Eight mayors including Winston-Salem's Allen Joines and Yvonne Johnson of Greensboro will be attending.

Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin will make a campaign stop in North Carolina on Thursday at Elon University's Latham Park baseball stadium. Doors will open at noon. A complimentary ticket is required.

The third and final Presidential debate will be this Wednesday Oct 15th at Hofstra University in Hempstead, New York. ELECTION DAY (November 4th ) is less than 3 weeks away.

An Oklahoma law forbidding a woman from having an abortion until she has an ultrasound and has a physician give her a description of the unborn baby is being challenged in court. The law, which goes into effect Nov. 1, is being contested on grounds that it violates a woman's privacy, endangers health and assaults dignity. The longer that a patient has been seen by the same primary-care physician, the more likely the patient is to be screened for certain kinds of cancer. According to a state Medicaid study, patients who had been seeing the same practitioner for more than five years were twice as likely to be screened for colorectal, breast or cervical cancers.
