New story: Officials with UNC Charlotte saying that a student has been diagnosed with tuberculosis. The school is contacting people who might have been exposed. The Charlotte Observer reported that school officials said the un-named student lives in private, off-campus housing. Starting today (October 1st), if you are under 21 years of age…your state issued driver’s license or ID card will now be printed vertically. The change is to help retailers from selling alcohol and tobacco to under aged people.

Senators McCain and Obama will take a break from the campaign trail today and return back to Washington, DC to vote on the Senate’s version of the $700 billion dollar Wall Street Bail-Out package. Among the changes in the Senate plan: Bank deposits insured by the FDIC would increase from 100,000 to 250,000 dollars.
Speaking of Wall Street…The Dow made a strong comeback on Tuesday regaining 485 points before close of business on Tuesday.

Sarah Palin vs Joe Biden: The only vice presidential debate of the campaign will take place tomorrow night in St. Louis. The next presidential debate will be next Tuesday in Nashville.

After 26 years, Nan Griswold is stepping down as the Executive Director of the Second Harvest Food Bank of Northwest North Carolina. The past year has been a ‘trying time’ for Nan and her family. Late in 2007, Nan’s husband was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s Disease. In June, their house was heavily damaged by fire. And in July, Nan broke her ankle.
