Toyota's massive recalls over problem gas pedals in the U.S. are being extended to China and Europe. Earlier in the week, Toyota suspended sales and production of eight models - including the Camry, America's top-selling car - to fix faulty pedals that could stick and cause acceleration without warning. www.toyota.com
FIFTEEN DAYS AFTER THE EARTHQUAKE IN HAITI, A TEENAGED GIRL HAS BEEN PULLED FROM THE RUBBLE. The rescue of the 16-year-old girl, came after more than three and a half hours of digging. It began when a group of young men were picking their way along the hillside and heard a voice. It was the second miraculous rescue in the Haitian Capital in the past 24 hours. PRESIDENT BARACK OBAMA SAYS DESPITE OUR HARDSHIPS, THE NATION IS STRONG. The main topic of the President's State of the Union address last night was jobs. The President wants the 30-billion dollars paid back by banks to go toward small business loans. He also wants to eliminate the capitol gains tax on small businesses.
VIRGINIA GOVERNOR BOB McDONNELL GAVE THE REPUBLICAN RESPONSE TO THE PRESIDENT'S STATE OF THE UNION ADDRESS. THE CASE CHALLENGING CALIFORNIA'S AMENDMENT TO PROTECT TRADITIONAL MARRIAGE HAS CONCLUDED IN SAN FRANCISCO. Andy Pugno, general counsel for Protect Marriage dot com, says the plaintiffs failed to prove that voters were irrational when they rejected same sex marriage. He says traditional marriage advocates have proven that it is beneficial to adults and children.
