The State Department is expecting serious loss of life from the 7.0 earthquake that struck Port-au-Prince (the capital city of Haiti) around 5pm yesterday afternoon. One aid worker describing the situation as absolute "chaos". The US is offering military and humanitarian assistance to Haiti. The U-S Geological Survey saying that this is the most violent earthquake to hit that region in over 200 years.

Two U.S. service members died and four Afghan soldiers were killed in separate explosions Wednesday in eastern Afghanistan.

An historic battle regarding the definition of marriage is under way in California. The legal battle will likely determine whether California's ban on same-gender "marriage" is constitutional. The challenge is to Proposition 8. Proposition 8 was approved by California voters in November 2008 to overturn a State Supreme Court ruling legalizing homosexual marriage.

Search engine Google may pull out of China. Officials with Google stating yesterday that it will stop censoring its search results in China after discovering that computer hackers had targeted human-rights activists…exposing their e-mail accounts to outsiders.
