A Federal Judge ruled yesterday that the Forsyth County Board of Commissioners is violating the U.S. Constitution by allowing prayers before their meetings with sectarian references (or references to a specific Deity such as Jesus Christ). The N.C. Department of Transportation has chosen the option of closing a one mile section of Business 40 through downtown Winston-Salem for two years while making repairs to the road. 70 percent of residents, business owners and commuters surveyed supported the two-year option. Work on the $70 million dollar upgrade to Business 40 from Church Street to Fourth Street in Winston-Salem is set to begin in 20-15.

Peter Gabriel: Disaster aid can benefit from technology
Haiti's devastating earthquake is reinforcing Peter Gabriel's belief that disaster relief needs to take better advantage of the digital age. The 59-year-old singer-songwriter (and former frontman for the rock group Genesis) says technology has amazing potential and cell phones can help people send money to each other. Gabriel is a techie who has been involved in different online ventures. He says is encouraged that volunteers from across the globe have come together to assist the impoverished Caribbean nation, but says people need to understand that Haiti needs more than just temporary aid. http://www.petergabriel.com/
