Breaking News: Another strong earthquake has hit Haiti this morning.
The 6.1-magnitude quake was centered about 60 kilometers outside the devastated capital of Haiti, Port-au-Prince. There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries.
FYI: Last week’s deadly earthquake in Haiti was 7.0.
-Search and rescue teams from several countries have freed 90 people buried under collapsed buildings, including an elderly woman who was rescued yesterday after being trapped under rubble for a full week.
-Officials estimate last week’s earthquake killed about 200,000 people and
affected an estimated three million -- about a third of Haiti's population.
-On Tuesday, U.S. troops and supplies landed on the grounds of the shattered
presidential palace in Port-au-Prince.
-Later today, a U.S. Navy hospital ship equipped with 1,000 beds is expected to arrive in Haiti.

Update: A lone gunman suspected of killing eight people before disappearing into dense Virginia woods and firing on a police helicopter surrendered peacefully at sunrise this morning, ending an overnight hunt by dozens of law enforcement officers. Christopher Speight, 39, approached officers at the scene of the shootings at about 7:10 a.m. and turned himself in, said Sgt. REPUBLICAN SCOTT BROWN HAS WON THE U-S SENATE SEAT FORMERLY HELD BY THE LATE TED KENNEDY IN MASSACHUSETTS. Brown’s victory means that the Democrats will no longer have the numbers to halt a filibuster on the Senate Floor.

Winston-Salem Mayor (Allen Joines) and Chairman of the Forsyth County Commissioners (Dave Plyler) are spending the day in DC to lobby North Carolina's congressional representatives and senators for nearly $15 million dollars in federal funds for various projects…including $3 million dollars for improvements at Smith-Reynolds airport and nearly $2 million for the airport business park next door. Greensboro police Chief Tim Bellamy making the announcement that he will step down at the end of July.

American Airlines has joined its competitors in raising checked luggage fees. The changes are effective for tickets purchased on or after February 1 for travel within the United States, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
