A ban on internet sweepstakes games is making its way to the Governor’s desk. House lawmakers in Raleigh have voted to support a Senate bill that will ban the games which have become popular at hundreds of Internet cafes and business centers around the state.

An 85-year-old woman has died as a result of injuries she suffered in a fire at a retirement community in Greensboro. Crews are still searching the murky waters of the Delaware River this morning for two passengers missing from an amphibious sightseeing boat that was hit by a barge yesterday in Philadelphia. The missing passengers are a 16 year old girl and 20 year old man from Hungary. (RnR)

A suspect wanted by police in the abduction of a 4-year-old Missouri girl shot himself as investigators approached him yesterday. The suspect is in critical condition. A tip led police to the man. The little girl, Alisa Maier, was found alive Tuesday night about 70 miles from her home. Parts of Texas and Mexico are bracing for the second tropical depression of the season. The un-named tropical depression is located about 200 miles east-southeast of Brownsville, Texas, with current sustained wind speeds of 35 mph. The storm is expected to make landfall later this evening. A lottery ticket worth $12 million dollars that went unclaimed for more than a month has turned up in Greensboro. 82 year old Mike Manheim along with his wife Faye collected their winnings and an oversize check yesterday at the lottery’s Raleigh headquarters. Lottery officials said that Mike Manheim bought the winning ticket for the May 28 Mega Millions jackpot and matched all five numbers and the Mega Ball. He bought the ticket at the Quick Shop on West Market Street. Mike Manheim (82 years old) has been playing since 2006. Manheim opted for the lump sum, one-time payment of $7.7 million dollars. NASCAR champion Jimmie Johnson is a father. Johnson's wife, Chandra, gave birth to a daughter yesterday. Mom and baby are doing well. This is the Johnson’s first child. Johnson was prepared to miss a race if his wife went into labor last weekend. FYI: NASCAR is in the midst of a baby boom this season: Juan Pablo Montoya and Jeff Gordon are both expecting babies this summer, while Carl Edwards and Elliott Sadler both became first-time fathers this year.
