The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission voting in favor of new mandatory standards for baby cribs. The new rules, likely to go into effect next year, would render many existing cribs in the country as ‘not up to code’, regardless of whether the crib style and model was ever considered unsafe. The new standards would eventually ban the manufacture and sale of drop-side cribs. www.cnn.com/2010/US/07/14/crib.standards/index.html?hpt=T2

No idling law now in effect. A new rule that took effect earlier this week requires heavy-duty truck operators to reduce unnecessary idling of their trucks to help improve air quality in the state and meet new federal air quality standards . The rule applies to on-road gasoline and diesel-powered motor vehicles with a loaded weight greater than 10,000 pounds. Under the rule, operators should not idle their vehicles for more than five consecutive minutes in any 60-minute period (with some exceptions). The rule exempts farm equipment and military trucks.
