A murder-suicide in Winston-Salem yesterday has left a five year old without a mom and dad. WXII reporting that police were called out to the home on Stone Crossing Drive off Country Club Road after shots were heard around 2pm. The couple's 5-year-old daughter, who was inside the home while the incident took place, was not physically harmed and is now with Child Protective Services.



Kids and food allergies seems to be a growing problem. A new study in the journal Pediatrics finding that 8% of children under age 18 in the US have at least one food allergy. Among those kids with food allergies, about 39% had a history of severe reaction to foods and 30% were allergic to multiple foods. A new report from the UN finding that the number of people worldwide that have been displaced from their homes is the highest in years. Over 43 million people were forced out of their homes because of war or conflict in 2010. The top three countries with the largest refugee population are Pakistan, Iran, and Syria.  RnR


Miss California Alyssa Campanella was crowned Miss USA last night. She was the contestant who wore a green flared dress for the evening gown competition. Another contestant, Blair Griffith, revealed that she was left homeless after being named Miss Colorado USA. The 23-year-old beauty queen and her mother were evicted just weeks after her October 2010 victory. After telling the directors of the Miss USA pageant that she had lost her home, Blair made the decision to go public with her story. Blair’s father was diagnosed with prostate cancer and within six months passed away. Blair was 14. Clarence Clemons, the longtime saxophone player with Bruce Springsteen's E Street Band, passed away on Saturday, less than one week after he suffered a stroke. ‘The Big Man’ as he was called was 69 years old.  Clemons had played sax in the E Street Band off and on since 1972.

Starting next year, internet users will be able to create their own suffixes other than .com or .org. Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers, or ICANN (the organization that handles internet domains) making the announcement. That means new branding possibilities for companies, cities, and organizations. Applications for the new site names can be submitted beginning in January of 2012


Facebook, it turns out, isn't just a waste of time. People who use Facebook have more close friends, get more social support and are usually more politically engaged than those who aren't on Facebook. A new report by the Pew Internet and American Life Project also found that Facebook users are more trusting than their non-networked counterparts.
