Your older ‘drop-side’ baby crib is now considered illegal in the US??  Starting today, all baby cribs manufactured or sold in the US must meet new and improved federal safety standards. Drop side cribs can NO longer be sold in retail stores or even sold at yard sales. The ‘new’ baby cribs will not look much different than the older drop-side cribs…except that all four sides of the crib will be fixed (no more drop down sides) to prevent suffocation deaths. Drop-side cribs have been blamed for more than 30 infant deaths since 2000.
FYI: Those who run child care centers with the older drop-side cribs have until the end of the year to comply with new government safety regulations.

‘What’ your pre-schooler watches on TV and ‘when’ they watch it, can make a difference in their sleep.  According to a new study, young children that watched age appropriate TV in the morning or afternoon did NOT have problems with their sleep.  But when the TV shows contained violence or by watching TV right before bed, young people were more likely to experience sleep problems (even nightmares) and wake up during the night or feeling tired in the morning.
The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends that preschoolers…
-First of all, take the television out of the kid’s bedroom
-watch NO MORE than two hours of television a day.
-Parents should turn OFF the TV at least 60 minutes before kids get tucked in
-Watch TV with your child whenever you can.

Former NC State basketball star Lorenzo Charles, whose last-second dunk gave the Wolfpack the 1983 national championship, was killed yesterday after the empty tour bus he was driving crashed on Interstate 40 in Raleigh. There were no other passengers on board. Lorenzo Charles was 47 years old.  FYI: NC State beat Houston in the 1983 NCAA National Championship game.
InsideHoops.com has a statement from Anthony “Spud” Webb on the death of Lorenzo Charles: “We were friends, teammate and roommates over 28 years, and today I lost a very good friend in Lorenzo. He always had a big smile and a big laugh that I will always remember. He was a gentle giant…”

Governor Perdue has vetoed the “Women’s Right to Know Act”, legislation that would have require a 24-hour waiting period before a woman could get an abortion in North Carolina. Lawmakers in Raleigh could ‘over-ride’ the governor’s veto next month.
