The state House had enough votes to over-ride the Governor’s VETO of the GOP budget plan early this morning in Raleigh. A coalition of Republicans and 5 Democrats approved the ‘override’ by a 73-46 vote, just enough to meet the three-fifths majority required to overturn the Governor’s veto from Sunday. The principal at North Davidson High School Gary Fishel is retiring after 30 years as an educator. Fishel attended his last graduation this past weekend and will officially retire July 1. Fishel is a 1971 graduate of Parkland High School and graduated from Western Carolina University with a degree in health and physical education. Fishel joined Davidson County Schools back in 1979, teaching and coaching at what was then North Davidson Junior High School. A fight involving around 100 students broke out at Parkland High School yesterday afternoon after a group of students left school earlier than instructed, on the last day of school for students. Jim Morgan, CEO of Krispy Kreme, sharing good news during yesterday’s annual shareholder’s meeting. The company reporting a $7.6 million dollar profit back in January (after a six year climb back from a major stock drop). Weight-loss surgery such as gastric bypass has been shown to decrease weight and diminish diabetes in severely obese people…but one study finding that weight loss surgery did not add years to a man’s life. A study conducted at Veteran Affairs medical centers followed 850 veterans who had bariatric surgery from January 2000 to December 2006. The findings showing that the older, severely obese male patients in the study were not living longer because of the procedure. 66 year old Dave Wolfsen, a retired farm equipment dealer from Michigan, loves tractors and loves helping people in need. Wolfsen, known as “Tractor Dave”, is riding across America over the next couple of months on his restored 1937 tractor…to raise awareness and funds for the Christian Reformed World Relief Committee and the Food Resource Bank.
