The “Women’s Right to Know Act”, legislation that would require a 24-hour waiting period before a woman could get an abortion in North Carolina, has been sent Governor Perdue’s desk. The Governor, who is pro-choice, will likely veto the pro-life bill. Most Republicans voted for the measure except for Senator Stan Bingham, (R-Davidson) who joined all Senate Democrats in voting against the bill. Sen. Richard Stevens, R-Wake, did not cast a vote. (HB-854)

Parents and their teens could be spending even more time in the car together. A bill being considered by lawmakers in Raleigh would require teen drivers to log 60 hours of driving time with their parents before earning an unrestricted license…and the right to drive by themselves. Under the proposed changes, student drivers would be almost 18 years old by the time they finished the first two stages of graduated licensing. FYI: North Carolina is one of five states that does not require a specific amount of supervised driving. (Greensboro News and Record)

Congratulations to Bib's...the only hometown restaurant to win top honors at the Twin City RibFest last weekend at the Dixie Classic Fairgrounds.   The Winston-Salem Journal reporting that an independent panel of judges sampled the pork ribs in a blind taste test before naming Bib's the grand champion award winner. FYI: Bib's -  known for its pulled pork and beef brisket - beat contestants from Texas, Alabama, South Carolina, Arkansas, Georgia and Ohio.

At almost 100 years old, Leo Plass finally received his teaching degree from Eastern Oregon University.  Back in 1932, Leo Plass was less than one semester away from graduating with a teaching degree. But during the Great Depression, a teacher’s salary was just $80 dollars a month. A friend offered him a logging job paying $150 dollars a month. So at the age of 20, Leo Plass dropped out of college. Fast forward almost 80 years, Leo Plass finally walked across the stage with his teaching diploma this past weekend.
FYI: Leo didn't expect his life to get even better. Then, he put on his cap and gown saying "(I) never dreamed of something like this happening to me. It's out of this world." http://www.ktvz.com/news/28239246/detail.html?source=bend
