Wal-Mart will put "Christmas" back into the holidays this year.
A year after religious and other groups boycotted retailers, including Wal-Mart for downplaying Christmas, the world's largest retail chain will have an in-your-face Christmas theme this year.
New this year:
• A TV ad trumpeting Christmas will air for the first time next week. Wal-Mart also will air TV ads along with the Salvation Army mentioning Christmas.
• The name of the department with Christmas decorating needs will change from The Holiday Shop, which it was for the past several years, to The Christmas Shop.
As at Wal-Mart, Macy's employees are encouraged to consider wishing customers holiday greetings such as Happy Kwanzaa or Feliz Navidad when appropriate. (usa today)

President Bush has accepted the resignation of Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld. Former CIA head Robert Gates will replace Rumsfeld. Bush said he and Rumsfeld agreed that "the timing is right for new leadership" at the Pentagon. (AP)

The Senate will go to the Democrats by one seat. Senate races in Montana and Virginia being decided late on Wednesday. Democrats now control both the US House of Representatives and the Senate. (AP)

American figure skater Michelle Kwan is about to become a non-salaried U.S. diplomat. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice plans to name Kwan, the daughter of Chinese immigrants from Hong Kong, as a public-diplomacy ambassador. Kwan, who holds nine national skating championships and five world titles, will represent American values, especially to young people around the nation and the world. (AP)

As Christians…we know that the Word of God ‘saves’ lives…Well, a 54-year-old Florida man credits two small Bibles in his shirt pocket with saving his life after they stopped an attacker’s bullet. The man was attacked by two men while he carried bags of garbage to a trash bin. He said that the bullet was stopped by two New Testaments that he was carrying in his shirt pocket to give to friends. Police took them as evidence. The Florida Times-Union reports that aside from a red mark and a pain in his chest, the man was not injured. (AP)

The Winston Salem Journal is reporting that former University Of Miami football coach Butch Davis will take over as head coach at UNC.

The San Francisco 49ers have given up hope of building a state-of-the-art stadium in San Francisco and are considering a 30 mile move to Santa Clara.
