It’s Cold in the Northern Mountains this morning …
The Northern Mountains did not get much in the way of natural snow, but cold temperatures have the snow guns humming along on the ski slopes.
Lots of rain expected along the eastern portions of our state…

After a lot of critism…News Corporation, the parent company of book publisher HarperCollins and the FOX TV and Cable networks, has canceled publication of the OJ Simpson book and television special titled "If I Did It." News Corp. Chairman Rupert Murdoch said. "We are sorry for any pain that this has caused the families of Ron Goldman and Nicole Brown Simpson."
In the book, the one-time football superstar tells how he would have killed his ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend Ron Goldman if, in fact, he had done it. (www.foxnews.com)

The Guilford County School Board has voted to extend School Superintendent Terry Grier's contract to 2010.

Democratic Representative Charles Rangel of New York says he plans to propose a measure to reinstate the draft. Although Congress is unlikely to bring back the military draft…The US does have a plan, if necessary, aimed at inducting millions of young men for active military service. The Selective Service System, an agency independent of the Defense Department, says it's ready to respond quickly to any crisis that would threaten to overwhelm the current all-volunteer military. The Selective Service has an active list of more than 15 million names.
An estimated 93% of all men in the United States between 18 and 26 have registered for the Selective Service, as required by law. (www.cnn.com)

Residents in the Lindley Park area of Guildford County say they had spotted a coyote roaming around their neighborhood since the summer. Guilford County Animal Control caught the coyote on Monday. Officers had to euthanize the animal. Some neighbors are still concerned. There may be a second coyote roaming in the nearby woods. (news 2 / Fox 8)

Authorities in Huntsville, Alabama believe a car driven by a student came close to or struck a school bus that then crashed through an interstate guardrail and plunged 30 feet to the ground. Three young girls inside the bus were fatally wounded in the crash. The Governor of Alabama calling the accident a ‘heartbreaking tragedy’. (www.cnn.com)
