One Triad High School…destroyed by fire on yesterday…
The fire started around 2:30 Wednesday afternoon at Eastern Guilford High School. All students were evacuated. No students or faculty were hurt in the blaze. But…Three firefighters were injured while fighting the fire.
-No classes for students at Eastern Guilford today and Friday.
-Eastern Guilford Middle School students will have school as usual today.
-The Guilford County School Board will meet Friday morning to decide the future of students at Eastern Guilford.
-Parents should be contacted over the weekend about plans for their children for next week.

Good News: Health officials are now saying that a nationwide outbreak of salmonella may essentially be over. The outbreak sickened 171 people in 19 states including North Carolina. Reports of the illness peaked in late September. (healthday.com)

Sen. John Kerry has issued a statement apologizing to anyone offended by his comments to college students about either get a good education or get "stuck in Iraq." The White House issuing a statement saying that the apology "came late…but it was the right thing to do."
Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld and Vice President Dick Cheney will remain part of the Bush administration. Rumors were that the two ‘most-criticized’ members of the Bush team would be out of a job around the mid-term elections. (CNN)

Comedian Bill Cosby speaking at an education conference in LA over the weekend…saying that parents need to be more active in their kid’s education.
Cosby said that if you don't know the name of your child's teacher or how your boy or girl is doing in math, you’re not doing enough. He also went off on teachers who can't explain why courses such as English and algebra are necessary. It's part of his ongoing effort to point out the problems plaguing the black community and public schools in general. (AP / CNN)

Music therapy may help improve some symptoms of schizophrenia, according to preliminary findings of a British study. The patients in the music-therapy group were given access to different kinds of musical instruments and encouraged to use the instruments to express themselves. Compared to patients who received standard care, patients in the music-therapy group showed greater reductions in schizophrenia symptoms such as depression, anxiety and emotional withdrawal. The study appears in the British Journal of Psychiatry.
