Punxsutawney Phil predicting an early spring this morning.
The Pennsylgania prognosticator did not see his shadow today, meaning that spring is just around the corner. If the groundhog had seen his shadow, then, according to the legend, we could have expected six more weeks of winter.
Locally, -Lil’ Bit in Lexington…No shadow either .

One fatality associated with an accident involving a tractor-trailer and another vehicle yesterday. Troopers said 79-year-old Marvin Beasley, of Mount Airy, crossed into the path of a tractor-trailer. Beasley was heading east on Highway 89 in Lowgap when he lost control of the vehicle on the snow-covered roads. http://www.wxii12.com/news/10901498/detail.html

The Senate has voted overwhelmingly to raise the federal minimum wage for the first time in a decade. The minimum wage would be boosted over two years to $7.25 from the current $5.15. Operation Blessing is winding down its “ 2nd Annual Greater New Orleans Medical Recovery Week." The medical event going on through Saturday offering free health care to residents of New Orleans still recovering from Hurricane Katrina. More than 400 doctors, dentists and nurses flew in from across the country to volunteer at the event. Organizers project 10,000 people will be seen by Saturday. www.crosswalk.com

Maytag is voluntarily recalling 2.3 million Maytag and Jenn-Air brand dishwashers sold between July 1997 and June 2001 because of faulty wiring.
