Punxsutawney Phil and Lil’ Bit (our local pig prognosticator) did not see their shadows…predicting an early spring…Maybe after this week?

A blast of arctic air will keep Central North Carolina in a deep freeze for the next couple of days. Wind chill will also be a factor in making it feel like it is much colder than it really is. We can expect wind chills in the single digits tonight.

Red Cross volunteers from across the state have made their way down to Central Florida to help assist victims devastated by severe storms last Friday. At least 9 tornadoes cut a 50 mile path of devastation early Friday morning, ravaging hundreds of homes. Over 20 people were fatally wounded. Local governments along the East Coast have enrolled in a National Weather Service program to prepare for a possible Tsunami in the Atlantic.Liberty County, Georgia are among 9 East Coast towns that have been equiped with tsunami-detection buoy monitors.Also certified are Indian Harbour Beach, Fla.; Onslow County, N.C.; Norfolk, Va.; and five South Carolina communities — Charleston County, Horry County, Myrtle Beach, North Myrtle Beach and Surfside Beach.Tsunamis are primarily considered a threat in the Pacific Coast. The 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami fatally wounded more than 200,000 people in 11 countries.

Hey Mom, look at the pretty lights! The military saying that a mysterious light show last night was probably the result of a meteor. People across four Midwestern states (including Missouri, Iowa, Illinois and Wisconsin) reported seeing the flaming objects falling through the sky.

- and the first Super Bowl with the opening kickoff returned for a touchdown.
