Winter storm warnings continue from the Ohio Valley into New England.
One fatality blamed on a tornado that touched down near New Orleans…the fatality was a Katrina survivor that was soon to move into a new home.

An off-duty police officer is being credited with helping stop a deadly shooting rampage at a Salt Lake City shopping mall on Monday night.
Officer Ken Hammond, who was at the mall for an early Valentine's Day dinner with his wife Monday night, said he first thought the sound of gunfire was construction noise but drew his gun and told his wife to call 911 when he realized what was happening.
Investigators were still trying to figure out why an 18-year-old Bosnian immigrant, opened fire on shoppers, fatally wounding five and injuring four others. http://abcnews.go.com/US/wireStory?id=2872632

According to the Charlotte Observer:
Former state House Speaker Jim Black will resign from office and plead guilty to a federal corruption charge.
Black's attorney, Ken Bell, confirmed that Black will plead guilty later in the week to one count of accepting illegal gratuities. The felony charge carries a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison and a fine of $250,000. http://www.charlotte.com/mld/charlotte/16693510.htm

A second blogger working for Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards has left the campaign. Melissa McEwan left the campaign under pressure from Conservative critics who said her previous personal online messages were anti-Catholic and venomous to Christians. The Home Schooled child in Germany, who was sentenced to a Nuremberg psychiatry unit for being home schooled…has now vanished.
German authorities have not informed the parents of Melissa Busekros about her new location.
-The case involves a teenage homeschool student in Germany who was suddenly taken from her parents by German police on January 30th and placed in a psychiatric ward.
-Homeschooling was first officially banned under Adolf Hitler in the late 1930’s…a ban that is still enforced today

Best in Show going to ‘Diamond Jim’, an English Springer Spaniel at the 131st Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show at the Madison Square Garden last night. Diamond Jim beating out a Dandie terrier co-owned by Bill Cosby, which came in first last year.
