A BRITISH TEACHER HAS BEEN ARRESTED IN SUDAN FOR ALLOWING HER ELEMENTARY STUDENTS TO NAME A TEDDY BEAR…MOHAMMAD. As part of a class project, the 54-year old woman asked her class of 7 year old students to come up with a name for their classroom teddy bear. The class agreed on ‘Mohammad’. The teacher was later arrested and accused of insulting Muslims. The BBC reports that if she is convicted, the teacher could face a jail sentence and 40 lashes.

The Guilford County Health Department has reported the county’s 21st case of rabies for the year. A stray cat found on the Lindley Park walking Trail in southwest Greensboro tested positive for rabies on Tuesday.

The strike by stagehands in New York City is over. A tentative agreement between producers and striking stagehands was announced late last night. Shows are set to re-open this evening. The strike that lasted 19 days shut down 26 of the 35 theater productions in the city.

THE BOARD OF REGENTS FOR ORAL ROBERTS UNIVERSITY IS IN THE PROCESS OF SELECTING A NEW PRESIDENT. Richard Roberts, the son of founder Oral Roberts, resigned as the university’s President last Friday. School officials are investigating accusations that Roberts misspent school funds to support a lavish lifestyle.

North Carolina’s original copy of the Bill of Rights will be on display at the Greensboro Historical Museum this weekend only. The 218-year-old document left the state in 1865. It was bought and sold among collectors, and finally returned to the state two years ago after an elaborate undercover FBI sting in 2003. Admission is free…but limited.

Oklahoma, New Mexico, Arizona, Alaska and Hawaii will be the final five designs in the popular State Quarters series. The final five designs will be minted and issued in 10-week intervals throughout 2008. The series began in 1999 with a quarter honoring Delaware. Surveys by the Mint have found that nearly half of all Americans are collecting the state quarters.

A Judge in Niagara Falls (New York) is in some hot water for ordering everyone in his courtroom to be put in jail because of a ringing cell phone. The Niagara Gazette saying that the judge ordered all 46 people that were in his courtroom to jail after he was unable to determine the source of what was believed to be a ringing cell phone. Some spent several hours behind bars before being released. The judge has apologized.

OBESITY RATES IN THE UNITED STATES HAVE LEVELED OFF in recent years. The Centers for Disease Control showing that 34% of adults in the US are obese. Also, more women than men are obese but that men are slowly closing that gap.
