The Highway Patrol reporting 13 fatalities from accidents (in the state) over the Thanksgiving weekend.

The early numbers are in: Retailers saying that more people headed out to the stores this past weekend but spending was down compared to 2006.

The Wildfires that have 47-hundred acres near Malibu, California should be contained by this evening. As many as 15-thousand people had to be evacuated at one point.

Two Surry County sisters who died in an accidental drowning last Wednesday evening were laid to rest on Sunday. Authorities say that 8-year-old Cheyenne Cain and 4-year-old Abigail Cain drowned in a neighborhood pond off Cedar Lake Trail in Surry County. A new Harris poll showing that if your profession is a firefighter, scientist or teacher you are special…deemed the most prestigious occupations in the US… while bankers, actors and real estate agents are the least prestigious occupations. Beauty queen Ingrid Marie Rivera beat 29 rivals (including pranks and a bomb threat) to become Puerto Rico’s 2008 Miss Universe contestant over the weekend. Beauty pageant organizers are still investigating who doused a contestant's evening gowns with pepper spray and spiked her makeup, causing her to break out in hives. Rivera was composed while appearing before cameras and judges throughout the competition. But once backstage, she had to apply ice bags to her face and body, which swelled and broke out in hives twice.
She thought at first it was an allergic reaction, or maybe nerves…
Rivera's clothing and makeup later tested positive for pepper spray.
Rivera's bag containing clothes, makeup, credit cards were stolen during the competition.
