General Motors is notifying 1,100 dealers today that their franchise agreements will not be renewed. On Thursday, Chrysler will eliminate close to 800 dealers nationwide…including two local dealerships…City Motors in Greensboro and Stearns Chrysler-Jeep in Graham.

Protests planned on the campus of Notre Dame University this weekend in advance of President Obama’s commencement address on Sunday. The local Catholic bishop and a number of graduating seniors are boycotting the commencement service. THE NUMBER OF CONFIRMED AND PROBABLE CASES OF SWINE FLU IN THE US HAS NOW TOPPED FOUR THOUSAND. A SWINE FLU OUTBREAK IN NEW YORK CITY HAS PROMPTED EDUCATION OFFICIALS TO CLOSE THREE SCHOOLS IN QUEENS. The schools will be closed for a minimum of five school days beginning today.
