There are NO planned public gatherings at the White House today for the National Day of Prayer. White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs says President Barack Obama will pray privately as he does every day, but his only public acknowledgement will be to issue a White House proclamation.

Another round of storms late yesterday afternoon ‘ushering in’ tornado warnings for most of the Triad. Rotating ‘funnel clouds ’ were spotted near Highway 601 in Davie County…then moved east into the Midway community in northern Davidson County then into Guildford County. There were no reports of damage.

With Graduation ceremonies planned for this weekend, officials with NC State University are rushing to repair the campus ‘Bell Tower’ that was damaged during a thunderstorm early Tuesday evening. Lawmakers in Raleigh ‘watering down’ the latest ‘Smoking Ban’ proposal that would now apply only to restaurants, nightclubs and bars…not at the workplace. A more restrictive smoking ban was losing support. A vote on the latest smoking ban is expected this week in the state Senate.

A new Sheetz convenience store is coming to Kernersville near the intersection of North Main and Gralin streets. A traffic light will also be installed at the intersection. The Kernersville board of aldermen approved the rezoning earlier in the week. The new Sheetz will employ 40 people when it opens next year.
