The biological mother of Zahra Baker, the missing 10 year old girl from Hickory, telling reporters in Hickory on Sunday that she is blown away with the outpouring of love and support from complete strangers in the Hickory area .
Emily Dietrich lives in Australia but is currently in Hickory. Investigators confirming on Friday that a human bone found in Caldwell County matched DNA from Zahra who was reported missing by her father and step-mom back October 9th. Emily (the biological mom) suffered post-partum depression after Zahra’s birth. She hasn’t seen Zahra since her daughter was 8 months old, after handing over custody of Zahra to the father, Adam. www.journalnow.com

A new policy for city workers in Winston-Salem banning the use of cell phones while driving (and on duty) is now in effect. The only exception: hands free devises. The Winston-Salem Journal reporting that the policy applies to city employees who drive city owned vehicles and to employees driving personal vehicles for city business. www.journalnow.com

In Haiti, more than 900 people have died and over 14,000 have been hospitalized because of the spread of Cholora. Health care workers consider those numbers to be low. Haiti’s president pleaded with citizens to practice good hygiene and proper cooking methods. But, most Haitians do not have access to clean water or reliable sanitation. (RnR)

Free at last. A British couple kidnapped by Somali pirates more than a year ago has been released. Paul and Rachel Chandler were set free on Sunday after a ransom was paid to their captors. Pirates have captured the crews of dozens of tanker ships crossing the Indian Ocean in recent years. Hundreds of those crew members are still being held by pirates. (RnR)

Sports: Fans at the Giants vs Cowboys game in New Jersey last night spend a portion of the game in the dark. The first power outage happened at the beginning of the third quarter. That effected fans in the upper deck. Then the second outage came later in the quarter when the entire stadium went dark. The game was delayed for eight minutes while power was restored. The Cowboys ended up beating the Giants 33 to 20. FYI: The New Meadowlands Stadium in New Jersey cost nearly 1.6 billion dollars to build. RnR

Traffic Update: The new section of the 311-Bypass in High Point is almost complete…6 months ahead of schedule. The new 311-Bypass, which will connect to I-85 in High Point, is scheduled to open Monday, November 22nd.
