This election you can participate in a first for North Carolina and the country; a statewide instant runoff election. Voters will select a first, second and third choice to fill a vacant seat on the state Court of Appeals. If no candidate gets the 50-percent plus one vote needed to win the seat, election officials will then tally up voters' second and third choices to get a winner. BTW: The Judicial candidates are non-partisan (meaning there is no party
affiliation listing on the ballot).

One politician’s attempt to show his support for U.S. troops backfired after his campaign flier mistakenly featured a photo portraying advancing German WWII soldiers. North Carolina ‘state legislator’ Tim Spear (D) apologized last week after his direct mail campaign sent out fliers showing four re-enactors dressed in German WWII combat uniforms. The text on the flier read: “In combat, you always want another soldier covering your back.” The North Carolina Democratic Party paid for the ad, and staffers approved the flier’s language. www.nypost.com/p/news/politics/us_politician_campaign_flier_backs_kHiq0uItZP1gzU76OP9mCM#ixzz1480gQfKw

The Winston-Salem Journal reporting the policy would eventually let a Christian flag fly again at a Veteran’s Memorial at the city’s Central Park…as a part of a limited public display allowing other religious flags recognized by the U.S. military. Fox 8 news reporting that city officials in King will work out the policy’s details with their attorneys and specifics of the policy will be finalized by lawyers from the Alliance Defense Fund.
