School nurses will be at East Forsyth High School today to teach students and staff how to protect themselves from MRSA, a hard-to-treat infection. On Wednesday, the school system confirmed that six members of the East Forsyth football team have been diagnosed with the disease. A 17-year-old senior at Staunton River High School in Bedford County, Virginia died on Monday after being diagnosed with MRSA.

One school district in Maine has voted to make prescription birth control pills and patches available to its Middle School students…ranging in age from eleven to 13. (The Portland Press Herald)

During a ceremony with the Dalai Lama, President Bush and Congressional leaders presented the Buddhist leader with the Congressional Gold Medal yesterday. The President calling on China to hold direct talks with the exiled Tibetan spiritual leader.

Add Burlington to the list of Piedmont cities implementing mandatory water restrictions. The new guidelines take effect November 1.

Transportation Officials in Davidson County are considering making the I-85 Yadkin River bridge a toll road to help cover the $400 million dollar construction costs. Turnpike Authority Officials plan on presenting the proposal to lawmakers in Raleigh. If approved, the toll road could be finished by late 2008.
