President Bush will be assessing the wildfire damage in Southern California later today. Officials say losses because of the wildfires could top one-billion dollars. Also, authorities are investigating at least one of the fires as arson.

The Winston-Salem and Greensboro Chapters of the American Red Cross are sending volunteers to Southern California to help provide food and water to firefighters and emergency workers.

The Kernersville Chamber of Commerce is hosting a candidates’ forum
tonight (Thursday) from 6:30 to 8pm at the Town Hall in Kernersville.

Some area residents are already going to the polls.

The Christian indie band ‘Denver and the Mile High Orchestra’ has been chosen as one of the 12 finalist for Fox's latest reality show ‘The Next Great American Band’. The show is produced by the same producers of American Idol and is structured in a similar format. Each Friday every group performs a song and then the audience calls in and votes for their favorite group, the group with the fewest votes is eliminated and sent home. Denver and the Mile High Orchestra is hoping to score a national record deal through the reality show. Vote this Friday (October 26th) for their first live performance on the show. Friday 8 p.m. on Fox.

Crisis Control Ministry has received one of three 2007 Non-profit Sector Stewardship Awards from the North Carolina Center for Nonprofits.
