SPORTS: The Lady Wolfpack lost to Boston College last night 62-51 in their first game since the passing of longtime NC State coach Kay Yow who lost her battle with breast cancer on Saturday. The Lady Wolfpack team wore pink uniforms. Even the opposing team wore pink shoelaces. Pink is the universal color of breast-cancer awareness.
A public viewing for Kay Yow will be held at Colonial Baptist Church in Cary today from 10 to 2pm. The funeral service will be held at 3pm.

Update: A NATIONWIDE PEANUT PRODUCT RECALL HAS BEEN EXPANDED.
The FDA saying that the Peanut Corporation of America is recalling all products manufactured at its Blakely, Georgia facility. The FDA says it's continuing its investigation of a nationwide Salmonella outbreak has sickened nearly five hundred people since September.

High School Student Killed at Bus Stop
A teenager from McMichael High School in Rockingham County was struck and killed by an oncoming car this morning. The accident happened shortly after 7 a.m. Monday. Crisis counselors will be at local schools to talk with students about the accident.

NC State Women’s Basketball coach Kay Yow lost her battle with breast cancer Saturday morning. Yow was 66.
Update: A public viewing will be held at Colonial Baptist Church in Cary this Friday from 10 to 2pm. The funeral service will be held on Saturday at 10am in her hometown of Gibsonville.
Tonight’s N.C. State women’s game against Wake Forest has been moved to February 10th.

Greensboro police are investigating the shooting death of a student at A&T State University. 22 year old Dennis Hayle was found shot to death at his off-campus apartment around 3:30 a.m. Sunday morning. A memorial service is being planned for later this week.
President Obama has issued an Executive Order on Friday rescinding the so-called “Mexico City Policy”. That ‘policy’ kept federal money from going to overseas non-governmental organizations that performed or promoted abortion. The Mexico City Policy was originally put in place by Ronald Reagan back in 1984. It was rescinded by President Clinton in 1993 and restored by President George W. Bush in 2001.

With an artic cold front approaching the Triad by the end of the week, two more churches in Greensboro have opened temporary emergency shelters this week to help the homeless. All part of the new Winter Emergency ( or WE) shelter program through Greensboro Urban Ministry that was established to help shelter 60 to 100 more homeless people this winter.
Mt. Zion Baptist Church on Alamance Church Road opened its shelter Monday night and West Market Street United Methodist Church will open on Thursday.

The researchers saying that the menthol in Vicks can stimulate mucus production and airway inflammation, thus possibly cause breathing difficulties in infants or young children…because of the small size of their airways. Mike Cliff, the High School principal at High Point Christian Academy, his wife and four children were injured in a car accident two days before Christmas. A Flood Watch has been issued for portions of North Carolina and Virginia through Wednesday afternoon. Surry and Wilkes County are included in the Flood Watch Rainfall totals of 2 to 4 inches can be expected…causing smaller creeks
and streams to possibly over flow.
The Death Certificate stating that Jett Travolta died of a seizure. An autopsy was conducted on the 16-year-old son of John Travolta and Kelly Preston yesterday in the Bahamas. The autopsy also showed that there was no sign of head trauma. Jett’s remains have been cremated. The Travolta family is planning on returning to the US later today.

While the price of oil is going down, a federal committee may force gas prices back up again in 2009. With less money coming in at the pump, states have less money to maintain roads.
