AFTER ABOUT A WEEK OF DAILY INCREASES, GASOLINE PRICES ARE HOLDING STEADY. Triple A saying that today's national average price for regular unleaded remains at $1.79. It’s around $1.70 in NC.

A new study from researchers at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center saying that Vicks VapoRub ointment can create breathing problems in infants and small children. The researchers saying that the menthol in Vicks can stimulate mucus production and airway inflammation, thus possibly cause breathing difficulties in infants or young children…because of the small size of their airways. Lay-offs expected at Old Salem. The recent drop in the stock market significantly reduced the museum's endowment. Everyone who leaves the museum will get a severance package that includes outplacement counseling.
-Old Salem is also changing the way it does its tours, starting next week.
Under the reorganization, tickets to tour Old Salem will be good for 2 days.

Sleep just might help fight off the common cold. If you get less than seven hours of sleep a night, you are nearly three times more likely to get a cold than those who get eight or more hours of sleep. The news is even worse for people who wake up through the night or have trouble falling asleep. The study conducted by researchers at Pittsburgh's Carnegie Mellon University. Appearing in the January issue of the journal Annals of Internal Medicine.

IT WAS NOT AN L.O.L. MOMENT FOR A CALIFORNIA WOMAN WHEN SHE OPENED HER CELL PHONE BILL AND SAW HOW MANY TEXTS HER TEENAGED DAUGHTER HAD SENT THE PREVIOUS MONTH. How many? 14,528. The Orange County Register reports the 13-year old girl has only had the cell phone for about six months. Her dad says she is supposed to share it with her brother and they were supposed to use it mainly for emergencies.Fortunately…the girl's mom had signed up for the unlimited texting plan.The average number of texts per month for a teenager: 1,750. By the way, L.O.L. is text-speak for "laughing out loud".

Among his regrets was the decision to display a "Mission Accomplished" banner aboard a Navy ship shortly after U.S. military action began in Iraq. Among the decisions he defended was the White House response to Hurricane Katrina. President Bush said he wished President-elect Barack Obama "all the best".

College Basketball: Wake Forest has jumped to No. 2 in The Associated Press' college basketball poll after its win over North Carolina on Sunday.
Pittsburgh remains No. 1…Duke dropped to third and Connecticut moved up to fourth. North Carolina was fifth followed by Oklahoma, Michigan State, Syracuse, UCLA and Clemson.
