Light rain with some freezing rain likely... some icing likely on bridges and elevated surfaces this morning through noon.

While the price of oil is going down, a federal committee may force gas prices back up again in 2009. With less money coming in at the pump, states have less money to maintain roads. A smoking ban inside state government cars and tougher rules for storing hog waste are among the new laws taking effect as of Thursday, January 01, 2009. ISRAEL IS EXPECTED TO ALLOW A FEW HUNDRED FOREIGNERS TO LEAVE GAZA TODAY. With thousands of troops now in place along the Gaza border, Israel could soon launch a ground offensive into the territory. This is day seven of Israel's military air offensive against the militant group Hamas in Gaza.

U.S. FORCES IN IRAQ HAVE HANDED OVER CONTROL OF BAGHDAD'S SO-CALLED GREEN ZONE TO THE IRAQI GOVERNMENT. It's the first time the Iraqi flag has flown over the palace since the U.S.-led invasion toppled the regime of Saddam Hussein in April of 2003. The transfer of power for the Green Zone was part of a U.S.-Iraqi security agreement that also calls for U.S. troops to withdraw from Iraq by 2011.
