Flood warnings are in effect for portions of Western Washington State today. Recent heavy rains and melting snow have led to widespread flooding. Thousands of people have been forced from their homes.

A 4.5 earthquake rattling Southern California over night. The quake was centered in the San Bernardino area…about 55 miles east of LA.

PRESIDENT-ELECT BARACK OBAMA IS WARNING OF DIRE CONSEQUENCES IF CONGRESS DOESN'T ACT QUICKLY ON HIS ECONOMIC RECOVERY PLAN. It may be mid-February at the earliest before lawmakers are able to vote on the recovery plan.

The consumer advocacy group Consumers Union asking Congress to push back the nation's transition to digital television. The request comes after the federal government said it has run out of money to provide coupons to help offset the cost of converter boxes.
All full-powered TV stations will stop airing analog signals and move to digital-only broadcasts as of February 17. Transition details: www.dtv.gov/

Day 14: Israel continues its air and ground assault on Hamas militants in the Gaza strip. On Thursday…members of the UN Security Council voted in favor of an immediate cease-fire in Gaza. The US was the only member to abstain from the vote.

The Illinois State House could vote on the recommendation to impeach Illinois governor Rob Blagojevich as early as today. If the recommendation passes, the Governor would face an impeachment hearing in the Illinois Senate.

Bob Yakos (from Clemmons) outlasted 9 other Demon Deacon fans who braved the elements over the past three days to win 15 years worth of season tickets to Wake Forest football games. 2008 Wake Football trivia settled the score.
