Greensboro will have a new mayor. Retired accountant Bill Knight beat incumbent Yvonne Johnson by around 1,000 votes. Knight ran on a platform of fiscal conservatism and cleaning up the police department. Big GOP victories in the Governor races in Virginia and New Jersey. In Virginia, Republicans not only won the governor's race, but also took Lieutenant Governor and five seats in the House of Representatives. Some political analysts are suggesting that the GOP wins could be a troubling sign for President Obama and the Democrats heading into an important midterm election year. New Jersey is also a blow to the Obama administration, where the President personally campaigned for ousted governor Jon Corzine.

The American Red Cross “Extreme Blood Drive” is set for this Sunday (Nov 8) from 12:30pm until 5pm at Reeds Baptist Church at the corner of Hwy 150 and old 64 in Lexington. All blood types are needed.
Help fight hunger. During the build (Nov 11-17), volunteers and spectators are encouraged to bring ‘non-perishable / canned food items to the ‘build’ site.
Two executives with Southern Community Bank were injured after the plane they were riding in made an emergency crash landing in a corn field southeast of Asheville. James Monroe and James Hastings were airlifted to a local hospital and listed in serious condition.

THE THREE MISSING DICKINSON STATE UNIVERSITY STUDENTS HAVE BEEN FOUND. Their vehicle was found submerged in a farm pool north of the school. Foul play is not suspected. A couple has been arrested for stealing thousands of pieces of luggage from Phoenix International Airport. Phoenix Police made the arrests on Monday after officials first observed 61-year-old Keith King and his suspicious behavior near one of the airport's luggage carousels. Police said it is possible that some of the items from the luggage was sold in a swap meet or a garage sale. Phoenix Police Detective James Holmes who made the arrest said that "There's suitcases everywhere." "Floor to ceiling. Everywhere."
