A devastating 8.9 magnitude earthquake rocking Japan overnight.  More than 30 aftershocks followed a deadly Tusanami.   This morning, Tsunami Warnings and Advisories have been posted for +20 countries in the Pacific (including the West Coast of the US) because of the earthquake in Japan. Last night’s earthquake was the most powerful earthquake to hit Japan in at least 100 years and the largest earthquake since a 9.0-magnitude earthquake struck the Banda Aceh area of Indonesia on Dec. 26, 2004.

Meredith Worley from Lexington (along with her husband Scott) is enjoying the ACC Basketball tournament in Greensboro ‘in style’ …all because she filled out an entry form at an area Food Lion several weeks ago. Meredith is one of three semi-finalists in the “Pepsi / Food Lion half court shot for a million dollars”. Check out the heavenly ‘stars’ from the top of Pilot Mountain.   This Saturday evening from sunset to 10pm the Forsyth Astronomy Society and SciWorks is hosting a ‘star viewing party’ at the top of Pilot Mountain.  If you have a telescope, bring one…but there will be several amateur astronomers on hand with telescopes to look through.

A deputy shot a man last night in Greensboro after the man pulled a gun on him and an EMS worker. The accident happened last night on Highway 68 and West Harrell Road outside the Oak Ridge community. A school bus driver in Charlotte was cited after a wreck that sent 18 students to the hospital …all because the driver was NOT wearing their glasses?!
