Good News: Power ‘back on’ in northern Winston-Salem.  A fire caused power outages in the northern part of Winston Salem overnight into this morning. A transformer exploded at about 12:30am this morning igniting the utility pole it was mounted on. The pole eventually broke, knocking out power. Over 3,000 homes were without power through 7am.


The President and CEO of National Public Radio (Vivian Schiller) stepped down on Wednesday.  On Tuesday, NPR fundraising executive (Ron Schiller) resigned after a hidden video surfaced showing Shiller, Betsy Liley and two undercover reporters posing as members with MEAC – a Muslim Brotherhood front group -  in a conversation belittling and harshly criticizing the Tea Party, Republicans, evangelicals and others.   The footage was produced by Project Veritas, the group that exposed ACORN.

The number of foreclosure notices filed in February dropped 14% compared with January. But the improvement may be exaggerated. According to RealtyTrac, a contributing factor was the harsh winter weather that covered much of the country. That delayed some of the paperwork processing. There were still more than 225,000 filings during the month, or one for every 577 homes.

The man that was killed in a house fire early Wednesday morning in High Point died trying to save one of his siblings. Family members said that 44-year-old Stephen Saulter had gone back inside his burning home to save one of his brothers who uses a wheelchair, but his brother was already outside. A 27-year-old Alamance County woman is accused of ‘stealing’ electricity for her home. Deputies said they received a complaint from a tech with Randolph Electric Membership Cooperative had spotted a meter device from another company illegally installed on their power pole.  Stacy Jean Kidd was arrested and charged with obtaining property by ‘false pretense’. The stolen electricity was valued at more than $3,900, deputies said.

A 15-year-old Lincoln Town Car billed as "Dale Earnhardt Sr’s Last Ride" is listed for sale on eBay for $1.5 million. The 1996 Lincoln Town Car, which the seller claims carried the body of Dale Earnhardt Sr is located in Huntersville, North Carolina. THE DALAI LAMA HAS ANNOUNCED HIS DECISION TO STEP DOWN AS POLITICAL LEADER OF THE EXILED TIBETAN MOVEMENT. The 76-year-old Dalai Lama says the time has come to pass on his political role to a new leader who is freely elected by the Tibetan people.

NATO MEMBERS BEGIN TWO DAYS OF TALKS ON LIBYA TODAY.  They'll discuss the possibility of imposing a no-fly zone to stop air attacks by forces supporting Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi.


THE WISCONSIN SENATE HAS PASSED THE GOVERNOR'S CONTROVERSIAL BUDGET REPAIR BILL DESPITE A WALK-OUT BY STATE SENATE DEMOCRATS. All the Democratic members of the State Senate left Wisconsin about three weeks ago to prevent passage of the bill. But the Wisconsin State Journal reports that Republican members used parliamentary procedures to pass part of the measure last night.  The State Senate Majority Leader says that Democratic senators had plenty of opportunities to return home and debate the bill.
