The Winston-Salem / Forsyth County school board approving a ban on tobacco products on school property where kids are present. Also, no smoking on school grounds or athletic fields but maintenance facilities and bus garages will have designated smoking areas. (WFMY)

Tire Recall: A small New Jersey tire importer is recalling 450,000 light-truck tires made in China because the tires might come apart.
Brand names include: Westlake, Compass, Telluride and Y-K-S.
The tires being recalled were sold under at least four brand names - Westlake, Compass, Telluride and YKS - in these sizes: LT235/75R-15; LT225/75R-16; LT235/85R-16; LT245/75R-16; LT265/75R-16; and LT3X10.5-15.

A lightning strike destroyed a Lexington landmark restaurant on Tuesday. A newspaper carrier first saw smoke and possibly fire at Southern Lunch around 3am early Tuesday morning and called 9-1-1. (the dispatch)Bolton pool in Winston-Salem was closed yesterday after a lightning strike shut off power to the pool's filtering system on Monday night.
City officials plan to reopen Bolton pool later today. You should call in advance before coming. Bolton pool's phone is 659-4318. (WXII)

A combine used by a farmer to harvest wheat somehow started a fire in a field in the Brown Summit area yesterday afternoon. Firefighters say the fire burned a 40-acre field and spread to some woods before being contained. (WFMY)

Investigators have found anabolic steroids in the house of
WWE wrestler Chris Benoit who was found dead along with his wife and son on Monday. Police say that a Bible was found next to the wife and son. Authorities offered no motive in the apparent murder-suicide. Authorities would not discuss Benoit's state of mind…speculating depression and "roid rage". No suicide note was found. (CNN)

The 13 year old girl whose feet were severed at a Kentucky amusement park is in stable condition in a Nashville hospital. The accident happened last Thursday.
Kaitlyn Lasitter was riding the Superman Tower of Power ride last Thursday at Six Flags Kentucky Kingdom in Louisville when a cable broke loose on the ride, cutting off the girl's feet above the ankles. Authorities and the hospital have declined to say whether her feet were reattached. (CNN)

Chris Paul, former Wake Forest stand out now playing in the NBA, was in town yesterday working on a Habitat House on Burton Street in Forsyth County that is slated to be complete by September. Chris Paul’s CP3 Foundation is sponsoring the project. The Second annual Chris Paul Weekend will be September 14 thru 16 in Winston-Salem. (journalnow.com)
