Flag Day…Ask Sam from the Winston-Salem Juornal:
Q. With it being Flag Day, I have a question about what to do with a flag I have that’s tattered. Is there a proper way I should dispose of it? - D.D.
A. The U.S. Flag Code says that when the flag is in such condition that it is no longer a fitting emblem of display, it should be destroyed in a dignified way, preferably by burning.
Boy Scout troops hold flag-disposal ceremonies from time to time.
The American Legion Post 55 also accepts old worn flags. The post collects them and disposes of them properly. Rules about proper display of the flag are on the Web site of the National Flag Foundation (http://www.americanflags.org/)
