Another round of severe thunderstorms moving through the Piedmont last night. Strong wind and rain knocked down a tree on Old Greensboro Road near Reidsville Road In Winston-Salem. There were also reports of downs trees in Surry and Davidson Counties. The storms also knocked out power to more than 4,600 customers in the Triad. Most outages were reported in Forsyth County. Tire Recall: The government has ordered a small New Jersey tire importer to recall 450,000 light-truck tires made in China because the tires might come apart and cause fatal crashes. Brand names include: Westlake, Compass, Telluride and YKS.
The tires being recalled were sold under at least four brand names - Westlake, Compass, Telluride and YKS - in these sizes: LT235/75R-15; LT225/75R-16; LT235/85R-16; LT245/75R-16; LT265/75R-16; and LT3X10.5-15.

Supreme Court ruling in several cases yesterday…
The "Bong Hits 4 Jesus” case saying that schools may prohibit student expression that is interpreted as advocating drug use. Also the high court ruling that taxpayers cannot challenge President Bush's use of government funds to finance social programs operated by religious groups. The suit was brought by the group called the Freedom From Religion Foundation. (USA Radio News)

Paris Hilton is officially out of jail: The hotel heiress was released after 22 days in an LA jail. Initially sentenced to 45 days in jail, but was released early. She's still on probation for violating probation in a drunk driving case. (CNN)

Representative Brad Miller says he will not run challenge incumbent Republican Senator Elizabeth Dole in 2008. Miller represents a Democratic district that stretches from Raleigh to Greensboro. (WXII)

Not a pants leg to stand on: Have you heard about the DC lawyer (Roy Pearson) who sued a Dry Cleaners for $67 then 54 million dollars over a pair of pants? Pearson claimed the cleaner lost a pair of suit trousers and later tried to return a pair that wasn't his. Yesterday, a Washington, DC, judge ruled against Pearson in favor of Custom Dry Cleaners. Pearson now has to pay up. The Dry Cleaners is suing for court costs. (FOX News)

No Cruise control in Germany…Germany has barred the makers of a new Tom Cruise movie from filming at German military sites because its star Tom Cruise is a Scientologist. The German government does not recognize Scientology as a Church… saying it is more like a cult. (CNN)

It is time to give the gift of life: The Northwest North Carolina Chapter of the American Red Cross is in critical need of blood. The blood center has less than one day's supply of O negative and O positive. If you are 17 years of age, weigh at least 110 pounds and are in generally good health…you can donate blood every 56 days.

The quest to become the next American Idol is about to start. Auditions for the seventh season of American Idol begin in San Diego, CA, on Monday, July 30, at Qualcomm Stadium.
Auditions will continue in the following cities:
Dallas, TX: Monday, Aug. 6 at Texas Stadium
Omaha, NE: Friday, Aug. 10 at Qwest Center
Atlanta, GA : Tuesday, Aug. 14 at TBA
Charleston, SC: Saturday, Aug. 18 at North Charleston Coliseum
Miami, FL: Wednesday, Aug. 22 at AmericanAirlines Arena
Philadelphia, PA : Monday, Aug. 27 at Wachovia Center
Audition information for these cities will be announced shortly. Season Seven of AMERICAN IDOL premieres in January 2008 on FOX.
