Pacific Hurricane coming close to Hawaii: Hurricane Flossie is currently a Category 4 hurricane spinning at 135 mph wind. Forecasters are predicting that the storm should weaken before passing to the south of the islands later this week. (http://www.weather.com/)

A gunman burst into a church in southwestern Missouri during a Sunday worship service…fatally 3 people, and injuring 5 others. After a stand-off, the gunman surrendered to police. No motive so far for the shootings.

A camera lowered into a collapsed coal mine in Utah revealed equipment but no sign of the six missing miners. Merv Griffin creator of "Jeopardy" and "Wheel of Fortune" passed away over the weekend after a battle with prostate cancer. He was 82. (http://www.cnn.com/)

NASA officials and astronauts will decide today whether to fix a deep gouge in the belly of the space shuttle Endeavour. A chunk of insulating foam smacked the shuttle at liftoff last week, creating a 3½-inch-long gouge that penetrates all the way through the thermal shielding on the shuttle's belly. http://www.usaradio.com/news_details.php?catid=0&storyid=1357

Lots of kids these days have an allergy to peanuts…but cashews seem to trigger more severe allergic reactions in children. In a recent study, British researchers found that cashew reactions were generally more serious then peanut allergies. The findings appear in the journal ‘Allergy’.

Relish the thought…the Wiener-Mobile gets a ticket?
One of the 27-foot Oscar Mayer Wiener-mobiles, on a national promotional tour, was parked illegally - hazard lights blinking - on a major downtown street in Chicago, Illinois.The officer who issued the $50 dollar ticket had already called a tow truck when the driver showed. A spokesperson for Oscar Mayer said that the Wiener-mobile, one of several, was traveling the country promoting a contest to sing the Oscar Mayer jingle in a commercial.She said illegal parking is against company policy, "even if you're driving a company vehicle that's shaped like a giant hot dog." Bridge repair: Davidson County, South of Lexington
NB I-85 at Highway 150 ( Mile Marker 82 ) near the Yadkin River will be down to one lane today from 8:30 to 4pm… Use Highway 29 as an alternate route. The work is expected to continue through August 24, 2007

WS: A portion of Fourth Street (between Broad and Burke Street) will be closed over the next 4 weeks. New water and sewer lines are being installed.
