An 18-year-old has admitted to accidentally starting the Sauratown Mountain wildfire that burned nearly 400 acres. Executives from five of the world’s top oil companies appeared before a congressional committee yesterday. The companies were asked why they should continue to receive 18 billion dollars in tax cuts while earning tens of billions of dollars in profits. The executives were also questioned about rising fuel prices. (World Net Daily)

The Greensboro City Council voted last night against reopening the White Street Landfill which has been closed since 2001. Councilman Mike Barber estimated that the city is wasting millions of dollar trucking its trash to a landfill in Montgomery County. The decision to close the White St. Landfill was controversial: residents who live in the area had previously complained about the smells and the animals it attracted. (Fox 8 news)

A group of third-graders at Center Elementary School in south Georgia are in serious trouble. The students (ages 8 and 9) were plotting to attack their teacher by bringing in a broken steak knife, handcuffs, duct tape. The planned attack was very organized. The students were apparently mad at the teacher because she had scolded one of them for standing on a chair. American Idol contestant David Cook was taken to the hospital after experiencing heart problems during last night’s show. Producers wanted him to go to the emergency room before the show ended, but David wanted to stay until it was over. He was released after a few hours.
