Today marks the one year anniversary of the shootings at Virginia Tech. Several events are planned: The university is holding a Commemoration service this morning with the reading of the names of each of the 32 victims.A student led candlelight vigil is planned around 8pm. http://www.vt.edu/

Pope Benedict (the 16th) will spend the day at the White House today. After a couple of days in Washington DC, the Pope travels to New York City. On Saturday, the pope will attend a Papal Youth Rally at St. Joseph's Seminary Chapel in New York. TobyMac, Third Day and former "American Idol" winner Kelly Clarkson will perform at the youth event.

No spanking allowed? A No Spanking Bill passed committee approval yesterday and is headed for the California State Legislature. The Campaign for Children and Families (a pro-family group) says the measure tramples the rights of parents to raise and properly correct their children.

Wildfires in southeastern Colorado have consumed more than eight thousand acres. Hundreds of people have been evacuated. 3 fatalities are being blamed on the wildfires.

A man fell to his death after the Mets-Nationals baseball game last night. The 36 year old from Brooklyn was sliding down the rail of an escalator when he lost his balance and fell 4 stories. The church congregation at Ridgeview Presbyterian Church in western North Carolina was robbed at gun point during its Sunday service last weekend. The three gunmen demanded purses, wallets, cell phones, and car keys and took money from the offering plate from members of Ridgeview Presbyterian Church. Police arrested the men a short time later. No one was hurt during the robbery at the church located in Mitchell County. WLOS-TV

SPORTS: Tiger Woods had arthroscopic surgery on his left knee yesterday to repair cartilage damage. That’s Tigers second operation in five years on the same knee.
