The state department has issued a ‘travel alert’ for Americans traveling in Europe, warning about the possibility of an Al Qaeda style attack. Governor Bev Perdue surveyed flood damage along the eastern portion of the state on Sunday. Officials report that last week’s flooding and damage reminiscent of Hurricane Floyd back in 1999. The Supreme Court begins its new term today. The term also marks the debut of Justice Elena Kagan on the Supreme Court and the first time three women will serve on the nine-justice panel. The High court has roughly 52 appeals on its schedule. Kagan will recuse herself from at least 24 cases already on the docket. 15 million Verizon Wireless customers will receive a refund. Verizon saying that it incorrectly charged customers for data sessions that they should NOT have been billed for. Current customers will get credits on their October or November bill of between $2 and $6 dollars in most cases. Former customers can expect to receive a refund check in the mail. (CNN)

A new look for the Belk logo. The Charlotte-based department store is looking to up-date its 122-year-old image. Belk is spending about $70 million dollars to change its logo to a more modern look and rebrand itself. Belk last changed its script logo 43 years ago.

At the Movies: “The Social Network" the story about the beginnings of Facebook co-founder Mark Zuckerberg opened at number one at the Box Office this weekend. Poking in $23 million dollars. A Prayer walk was held at the Veteran’s Memorial at Central park in King on Sunday…the site where a Christian Flag was removal by the King City Council on September 17th pending a lawsuit from the ACLU. Cheryl Penn with the Rolling Thunder chapter in Winston-Salem has seen this negative situation bring the community of King closer together.
