Columbus Day forecast: Sunny and very warm…High 85

Early totals, from Fair officials, showing that this year’s Dixie Classic Fair had the second largest attendance in its 128-year history. Approximately 353,000 people came through the gates. This attendance number is more than 30,000 above last year's attendance.
Mark your calendar: Next year’s Dixie Classic Fair is scheduled from Sept. 30 - Oct. 9, 2011.
Also, thanks to everyone who came out last Wednesday to the Dixie Classic Fair, an estimated 64,900 food items were collected to help the needy right here in Forsyth County through Crisis Control Ministry.

A large crowd is expected this evening at a public hearing on how King City Council members will handle the recent removal of a Christian Flag at a Veterans Memorial at Central Park in King. The King City Council will present several options on how to deal with the issue. The hearing starts at 6pm at the King Elementary School Gym.

Bank of America has temporarily halted all U.S. foreclosure proceedings amid pressures regarding the flaws in reviewing foreclosure documents. N.C. Attorney General Roy Cooper asked B of A to halt foreclosures in North Carolina late last week. The bank has suspended foreclosures in 23 states. The bank doesn’t intend to lift the moratorium until its assessment of all documentation is complete. The Wall Street Journal.

The actual rescue of those 33 miners trapped underground since August 5th should start as soon as Wednesday. Work crews have completed the installation of steel tubing to ‘line’ and re-inforce the path that will be used to bring the trapped miners to the surface.

Ex-NASCAR driver and Pleasant Garden native Shane Hmiel was involved in a serious accident over the weekend during qualifying at a race track in Indiana. The 30 year old was airlifted to an Indianapolis hospital Saturday night after his vehicle slammed into a wall between Turns 3 and 4 and then rolled over. Hmiel was listed in critical but stable condition after crash.
