Update: A part-time police officer has been charged with murder in the shooting death of a fellow student at Mid-Atlantic Christian University in Elizabeth City. 23-year-old Christopher David Amyx was charged late Wednesday with first-degree murder in the shooting death of Jonathan Schipper of Havelock on October 3rd. Both were students at Mid-Atlantic Christian University in Elizabeth City, a school with fewer than 200 students. Amyx was a full-time student and worked two weekends a month with the Pinetops Police Department. The school is holding a memorial service this evening at 7:30 p.m. in the Blanton Center for Schipper.

Women’s clothing company Talbots is planning to close between 75 to 100 stores by 2013. The closings are part of Talbot’s strategic turnaround plan initiated in 2007. Talbots operates stores at the Shops at Friendly Center in Greensboro as well as locations in High Point, Burlington and Winston-Salem. ( The Business Journal of the Greater Triad Area )
PRESIDENT OBAMA PRESENTED THE MEDAL OF HONOR TO THE PARENTS OF Staff Sergeant Robert Miller on WEDNESDAY. Staff Sgt. Miller died in battle, January 25th 2008. Miller saved the lives seven American soldiers and 15 Afghan soldiers when he ordered them to return to safety while he faced enemy fire alone. Miller's parents accepted the medal on his behalf in the East Room of the White House.
VERIZON WIRELESS ANNOUNCED ITS PLANS TO LAUNCH A FASTER INTERNET SERVICE FOR IT’S CELL PHONES. The new 4-G wireless network will be ten times faster than the current 3G network. New cell phones that can handle 4-G are expected to be released next year.
HUNGARIAN OFFICIALS CALL A FLOOD OF TOXIC SLUDGE THE WORST ECOLOGICAL DISASTER IN THE NATION’S HISTORY. The flood was a result of a burst dam at an aluminum plant in southwest Hungary. The sludge has a high concentration of heavy metals which can cause serious damage to the eyes and skin when touched. So far, four people have died and 116 injured after the red mud flooded their villages. Officials are worried that the sludge will eventually reach the Danube River.
SANCTUS REAL FRONT MAN MATT HAMMITT HAS POSTED AN UPDATED PICTURE OF HIS SON, BOWEN. The picture shows the stitches from where doctors removed his chest tube. In the same blog posting, Matt also praises his wife for her emotional and mental strength in dealing with baby Bowen's ordeal. Little Bowen is recovering from surgery for a serious heart condition. Currently, doctors are working to clear up an infection.
