FYI: This election you can participate in a first for North Carolina and the country…a statewide instant runoff election. Voters will select a first, second and third choice to fill a vacant seat on the state Court of Appeals. If no candidate gets the 50-percent plus one vote needed to win the seat, election officials will then tally up voters' second and third choices to get a winner.

Is there a problem with some of the touch-screen voting machines around the state? Well, Tom Fetzer, the chairman of the Republican Party in North Carolina alleged Thursday that a programming flaw with touch-screen voting machines used for early voting in 36 counties is causing votes intended for GOP candidates to be counted for Democrats. Fetzer said that if the State Board of Elections does not enact a list of demands intended to remedy the problem ASAP, then GOP lawyers will be in federal court later today seeking a statewide injunction. www.charlotteobserver.com/2010/10/28/1793274/nc-gop-head-voting-machines-defective.html#ixzz13k7Y1dec
