Update: Ted Williams, the homeless man with the velvet voice, was reunited with his mother, Julia Williams, after a decade apart on Thursday. Julia commented, "Is this the son? My…Prodigal Son has come back home." (Referencing the passage from Luke 15).  Williams was spotted by a reporter while panhandling on the side of an Interstate highway ramp in Columbus, Ohio.  A YouTube video of Williams that went viral earlier in the week, attracting more than 13 million hits.  Ted and his mother both acknowledged concern that his sudden fame and good fortune would make it more challenging for him to stay free of drugs and alcohol. Ted expressed optimism his belief in God would get him through. Good News: Numerous job offers have been coming in for Williams. He has already voiced commercials for Kraft Mac & Cheese…one of which will air on ESPN during the ‘Fight Hunger Bowl’ this Sunday.

A student at Reagan High School remains in ICU after hitting a patch of ice and flipping his car in a single car crash on Balsom Road near the school yesterday morning. Troopers reported that the road was well covered with ice when the accident happened around 8:30am.  FYI: A teenager was killed in Caswell County after the car he was riding in hit a patch of black ice and crashed. (Fox 8)

So what caused the roads to become hazardous on Thursday morning?  Forsyth County and areas north and west of the Triad saw an unexpected ‘flash freeze’ right after sunrise yesterday morning. Weather officials saying that the fast drop in temperature was triggered by clearing skies.

First, thousands of blackbirds fell out of the sky on New Year's Eve in Arkansas. In recent days, seems like we are hearing that ‘wildlife’ including birds and fish are dying in record numbers. Is it a sign of the times???  The reality: biologists internationally say that these mass ‘wildlife die-offs’ happen all the time and usually are unrelated.  http://apnews.myway.com/article/20110107/D9KJBL780.html

The new value of vinyl? Despite the popularity of digital downloads, vinyl was the record industry's only growth industry in 2010. Sales of the formerly most popular music playback medium increased by 14% last year. That means good things for ‘Remember When’ Records on High Point Road in Greensboro.  They are the largest record store in North Carolina that specializes in selling vinyl.  Record buyers seem to be favoring classic artists. The Beatles "Abbey Road" was the best-selling vinyl album last year.         Fox 8
